The Food Depot
Santa Fe, Northern NM
Northern New Mexico's food bank, serving individuals and families across eight counties through a network of partner agencies and pantries.
About
The Food Depot is the food bank serving northern New Mexico, headquartered in Santa Fe and covering a nine-county region that includes some of the most rural and geographically isolated communities in the state. Established in 1994, it distributes millions of pounds of food annually and is a member of the Feeding America network.
The organization works through a network of partner agencies, including pantries, shelters, group homes, and senior centers, supplying them with food to reach people in need. Counties served include Santa Fe, Rio Arriba, Taos, Los Alamos, Mora, San Miguel, Colfax, Union, and Harding, spanning a vast and sparsely populated territory where access to fresh food can be limited.
The Food Depot operates several direct programs. Mobile food pantries bring groceries to remote areas, and a Kids Cafe program provides meals and snacks to children at after-school and summer sites. Senior food programs and partnerships with healthcare providers extend its reach to populations facing barriers to consistent nutrition.
A signature event, the annual Souper Bowl, raises funds and awareness while showcasing local restaurants and chefs, reflecting the organization's deep ties to the Santa Fe community. The Food Depot also responds to emergencies, providing food relief during wildfires and other disasters that have affected northern New Mexico in recent years.
The organization depends on community donations, grants, food industry partnerships, and a large base of volunteers who sort and distribute food. By combining warehouse distribution with mobile and targeted programs, The Food Depot addresses hunger across a region marked by both high poverty rates and significant distances between communities.
