Urban farming and food sovereignty programs cultivating healthy food, community resilience, and ecological literacy in Santa Fe.
About
Reunity Resources is a Santa Fe nonprofit that runs a two-acre urban farm and a soil and compost operation, building a closed-loop, localized food system focused on equitable food access and sustainable land stewardship. The organization connects food waste recycling, regenerative farming, and community food distribution into a single integrated model.
Its composting program diverts roughly four million pounds of food waste from landfills each year, collecting scraps from commercial kitchens and residential doorstep pickup. Using an aerobic, high-heat composting method, Reunity produces about 3,000 cubic yards of finished compost annually, much of it sold to local gardeners and landscapers, with proceeds supporting the organization's mission. It also recycles used cooking oil into biodiesel.
Reunity Farm grows vegetables, herbs, fruits, and flowers, and donates around 10,000 pounds of fresh produce each year to community hunger relief efforts. The farm hosts a farm stand, a farm camp for children, and a farm fresh kitchen, and the organization operates the Santa Fe Community Fridge and Pantry, providing free food to anyone in need.
By tying together composting, farming, food distribution, and education, Reunity demonstrates how organic waste can be transformed into healthy soil and food rather than discarded. Its ten interrelated programs reflect a systems-based approach to environmental sustainability and food security in the Santa Fe area.
The organization engages volunteers, schoolchildren, and community members in hands-on learning about soil health, recycling, and local agriculture. Supported by compost and produce sales, grants, and donations, Reunity Resources serves as both a working farm and a community hub advancing regenerative practices in northern New Mexico.
